Aesir Raises €473,950 From 8,422 Backers on Kickstarter
One of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns for a video game from Germany has ended. Aesir Interactive raised €473,950 from 8,422 backers for Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori. Since yesterday, another €50,000 has been added by nearly 1,000 backers.
The Kickstarter campaign for Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori has raised €473,950 from 8,422 backers. It is still possible to back the Aesir Interactive project on Kickstarter. This is Aesir's first Kickstarter project. If all goes according to plan, the game should go into Early Access in the summer of 2025 and be released in March 2026.
This makes Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori is the second most successful Kickstarter from Germany after Everspace 2 by Rockfish Games (€503,478). The Kickstarter for Iron Harvest by King Art Games, which reached almost $1.3 million, should also be mentioned, although it was organized by the subsidiary in Boston (USA) and not by the headquarters in Bremen.
Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori for PC and consoles can still be backed on Kickstarter until 4 April 2025 at 14:00. However, the crowdfunding project for the Munich-based company is already a huge success. The original goal of €60,000 was reached in one day, and the money counter now stands at €419,802 from 7,498 backers. The game is also on over 100,000 wishlists on Steam. Many stretch goals were reached during the campaign, including a larger game world, more mission types, cooking, a peaceful mode, and horse racing.
It is the third most successful Kickstarter campaign ever by a German company. Only Rockfish Games was more successful with the Kickstarter campaigns for Everspace (€420,252) and Everspace 2 (€503,478), although the Everspace mark is likely to drop in the final stretch.
Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori is the third instalment in Aesir Interactive's series of games based on Windstorm, known as Ostwind in Germany. It is said to "set a new standard" for open-world, horse-themed action-adventure games. The game is being developed in Unreal 5, will be released for PC and console by publisher Mindscape, and is being funded by FFF Bayern and BMWK (most likely this is the project with the code name Whisper 3, which received funding of €1,471,162). Although the project's funding is already in safe hands, they are relying on the crowdfunding platform to make the game bigger and better.
Aesir Interactive, which employs over 100 people in Munich, continues: "As outlined, we will still release the game without the additional Kickstarter funds. But with a successful Kickstarter campaign we will be able to dedicate (much) more time and effort towards making the game even better and expanding/adding in much additional content. The additional funding will allow for more time to test, polish and refine the game for a smooth launch."
