Games Ground 2024 Increases Internationality
Games Ground Berlin became more international this year. For example, Publisher Connect featured many companies from Japan, while Arctic Game brought studios from Sweden.
This year, Games Ground Berlin (GamesMarkt reported) hosted international delegations through partnerships with KölnBusiness (Cologne) and Arctic Game (Sweden). Cologne was Games Ground's first German regional partner, while Arctic Game (Northern Sweden's gaming hub) was the first partnership with Sweden. The visiting teams participated in Games Ground's Publisher Connect programme, which connected them with potential investors and publishers. The Berlin-Japan connection shone through the Publisher Connect matchmaking event, supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and organised in collaboration with Spielfabrique, Tugboat Interactive and Japan's iGi Indie Game Incubator and SO-FU programmes. This initiative, supported by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, brought together Berlin and Japanese studios and expanded opportunities for creative and business exchange.
Participating publishers, including Asia-based Marvelous, G-Mode Corporation, Gamera Games, Coreblazer, Justdan International and others, offered European studios the opportunity to engage directly with Japan's game development landscape. This event allowed Berlin-based developers to engage with the Japanese market. Featured Japanese pitching studios included Kei26, VR Game Media, Monoryllis, Sōfu Project, Shirokurohitsuji, ashi, Don Yasa Crew, Kenkoh-Kikoh and CitalesGames.
"The Games Ground Team extends gratitude to all organizations involved, especially iGi and SO-FU, for making this event a true highlight of Games Ground. Together, we're building connections that unite studios, publishers, and ideas across borders, creating new avenues for innovation and collaboration in gaming," said the organisers. In total, Publisher Connect brought together studios from Germany, France, Ukraine, Spain, Italy, Poland, Mali, Peru, Austria, North Macedonia, Sweden, Greece, Malta, Tunisia, Denmark, Slovakia, Netherlands, Turkey, South Africa, Norway, Croatia, Japan, Portugal, Canada, Serbia, Zambia, Cameroon, Czech Republic and more.
