US Video Game Industry Revenue Down One per Cent in 2024
In 2024, $58.7 billion (€55.8 billion) was spent on computer and video games in the US, almost one per cent less than the previous year (2023). Hardware sales in particular fell by 25 per cent, while Call of Duty topped the content charts ahead of a football game that wasn't Madden.
By far the largest share of consumer spending was on video game content, which will total $50.64 billion (€48.15 billion), an increase of two per cent compared to 2023. This is the second-highest figure in US history, only 2021 was higher at $52 billion. "2024 content spending growth across the mobile, non-mobile subscription and the PC, cloud and non-console VR segments offset an 11% dip in spending on video game content for console platforms," writes Mat Piscatella, Executive Director & Video Game Industry Analyst. Data is from Circana (NPD) and includes mobile market information from Sensor Tower from 30 December 2023 to 4 January 2025.
