The Situation in Germany‘s Federal States: Wide but Sometimes Limited Support

The federal states invested less in games project funding in 2024 due to a few special circumstances. However, overall support is steadily increasing, partly because project funding is only a small part of broader support efforts. The funding provided by the federal states fell significantly compared to the previous year, partly because special budgets were available in 2023. In addition, a total of €2 million in funding is available in Schleswig-Holstein over several years. However, this funding is approved in a different way and is therefore not published on an ongoing basis.

The federal states of Bavaria, Berlin including Brandenburg, Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) have been the centres of the German games industry for many years when it comes to game development.
