The ESA published a statement on its website, cautioning not only about price increases for game consoles and accessories but also highlighting the gaming industry’s economic contributions. Specifically, the statement reads:

> “Video games are one of the most popular and beloved forms of entertainment for Americans of all ages. Tariffs on video game devices and related products would negatively impact hundreds of millions of Americans and would harm the industry’s significant contributions to the U.S. economy. We look forward to working with the Administration and Congress to find ways to sustain the economic growth supported by our sector.”

A significant portion of consumer electronics is manufactured in China, and these tariffs are expected to drive higher prices for US consumers in the near future. This applies not only to consoles but also to accessories, TVs, and smartphones. However, due to the digitalization of distribution channels, video games themselves will not be directly affected by the tariffs—or only indirectly. While game prices are unlikely to rise, increased spending on other electronics could reduce consumer willingness to purchase games in the US.
