The Esports Team Berlin programme is designed to specifically support young talent from the capital and pave their way to the international spotlight. To this end, Berlin is working together with the esports player foundation and is providing funding of up to €164,000 for the initiative through the Senate Department for Economic Affairs.

Esports talents from Berlin can apply for the 8-month funding period until 11 May. During a three-day selection event, 20 talented individuals will be chosen to receive support from coaches and experts over the following eight months—in the form of national and international boot camps, sports psychology support, esports training, nutrition counselling, and physical activity sessions. Talented esports players in the disciplines Brawl Stars, League of Legends, and EA Sports FC can participate.

"The Economic Administration has deliberately decided to set up a funding programme called Esports Team Berlin to underline Berlin's role as the capital of gaming and esports. This is the first time we are launching a programme to promote esports talent in Berlin," says Franziska Giffey, Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises in Berlin, referring to the fact that around half of the revenue generated by esports in Germany comes from Berlin.

Jörg Althoff, Managing Director of the esports player foundation, adds: "Berlin is sending a strong signal here as a driving force in esports. In line with our mission statement – 'Enable talents to live their dreams and serve as role models' – we are delighted to be tackling this project with the state of Berlin, giving young top talents a chance to shine far beyond the city and state borders, and to actively take their future into their own hands."
