The Year of Nintendo Switch
Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo

On 16 January 2025, Nintendo dropped the bomb, or rather the Bob-omb. The Japanese gaming giant officially announced Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike any of the company's other home consoles, this is a successor with a number in its name. After the success of the Switch, which has sold-in 150.86 million units so far, making it the third most successful console of all time after PS2 and Nintendo DS, Nintendo is sticking with the winning combination of handheld and console, even if everything looks a little bigger and more sophisticated. The way it was announced was as simple as it was impressive. The console's design was revealed in a trailer that lasted less than two and a half minutes, and the improvements over its predecessor were showcased in a playful way before Mario raced around a track in a tech demo.
