As reported by Kotaku at the end of January, German THQ Nordic and Embracer group daughter Black Forest Games was hit by layoffs that cut 50 of the 110 positions at the company. The information came from insider reports, public information was at that time not available. While neither THQ Nordic nor Black Forest Games have until now given statements to the public or press, several of the job cuts have now been confirmed by the affected people looking for new jobs.

Former 3D Artist at Black Forest Games Erwin van Dieren, for example, writes on LinkedIn: “Hello everyone, like many at Black Forest Games, I was also affected by the recent wave of layoffs. Naturally, the news came as a shock (especially since I just moved into a new apartment…), but I have chosen not to dwell on the negatives!” Van Dieren, who has worked on the Destroy All Humans! 2 remake, is actively looking for new positions in 3D modeling.

Daniel Pharos too, who has been Head of Audio Design for the game studio from Offenburg for more than five years, has been layed off from the company. “While I am quite shaken now, it helps me to look forward to potential projects I might help with this year, or rather people I can help... New exciting games... If you know someone who might need help this year with their game, or if you want to reach out, old friend or not, or just talk a bit, I would be delighted to hear from you!”, Pharos says, as he is looking for new work as well.

GamesMarkt has reached out for a comment to the company, but has so far not received a reply.
