As part of the Augsburg KidsLab, more than 700 pupils from 31 classes had previously taken part in free programming workshops and learned how to program their own computer games. At the closing gala, the best games were awarded the "Augsburg Games Award" by Digital Minister Mehring. He presented the three main prizes and emphasized the importance of promoting young talent in the IT sector.

Mehring: "If we want to actively shape the digital transformation and be among its winners, we have to get young people excited about STEM subjects and the opportunities offered by future digital technologies as early as possible. If you want to be the Silicon Valley of tomorrow, you have to be the Talent Valley of today. After all, today's kids are tomorrow's visionaries whose ideas will shape the future."

In the end, 33 games were created during the project, about half of which were submitted just before the deadline on 9 March. The first prize was awarded to the game 'Katz und Maus' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Qvf3G1bxbo) by Yann and Ben K. (10 and 12 years old). Second place went to 'Pape World' by Dominik G. (13 years old). Third place went to 'EcoSport' by Josef Julius V. (14 years old).

The GamesLab was initiated by KidsLab, a non-profit organization based in Augsburg. Its goal is to teach children and young people everything they need to know about computers and creative work with digital media in a fun way. Mehring: "The Augsburg GamesLab is a great talent pool for the IT geniuses of the future. You can feel the passion and enthusiasm that this great flagship project, which serves as a model for the whole of Bavaria, has generated in the city where I was born."
